Chaotic Choice

(Eingestellt am 14. Januar 2026, 18:11 Uhr von Manta-Ray)

Chaos Construction: Divide the grid into 9 regions, each comprised of 9 orthogonally connected cells. Every row, column, and region must contain the digits 1-9 once each.

Chaotic Choice: There are two versions of this puzzle. Each version uses a different definition for a 'region clue' (see below).

Arrows: The digit in an arrow-containing cell defines how many 'region clues' can be seen from that cell in the indicated direction. In one version of the puzzle, a 'region clue' is a region border (not including the grid edge). In the other version, a 'region clue' is a cell in the same region as the arrow cell (not including the arrow cell itself, and region borders block vision).

If a cell contains multiple arrows, the cell's digit is the total number of 'region clues' seen in all indicated directions.

A cell with multiple arrows may see no 'region clues' in one or multiple indicated directions (as long as 1 or more 'region clue' can be seen in at least one of the indicated directions).

TPP summed up my thoughts perfectly. Region borders was a titch grindy for my tastes, but I was so impressed by the setting that I didn't mind. Incredible that it works.

Extraordinary construction! It's incredibly impressive how both of these were unique, solvable and a good level of challenge, whilst also being remarkably different solving experiences! There were certainly some fiddly steps, especially in 'Region Borders', but this can be excused given the impressiveness of the setting achievement!

Solved with @ralphwaldo1 as a team effort :)

Very nice puzzles indeed! I am rating this at the 5 star level based on the Region Borders version. The Region cells version was much easier for me. Both were excellent constructions.
