Dutch Flat Mates: Even/Odd Lots (palpot collab)

(Eingestellt am 10. Dezember 2025, 07:00 Uhr von Flinty)

Special Thanks
Thank you to palpot for setting this puzzle with me. We both really hope you enjoy it.

Inspiration for this constraint comes from Complementary by palpot himself, which was set for the weekly Scojo discord/twitch prompt, and I suppose by happy accident this also qualified as a valid puzzle for that prompt. Basically, he sent me that puzzle to test and I realised it could probably Flat Mate. They have some similar ideas, but are soon very different.

Previous Dutch Flat Mate Puzzles
This has been a weekly series since '18 Oct 23'. Here is a spreadsheet link for all the previous puzzles in the series, which also has a few teasers for upcoming constraints/guest setters in the series (subject to change).

This alternative link offers a limited LMD search for Dutch Flat Mates.

Initial Setter Difficulty: 2.5 / 5

Normal Sudoku rules apply
Place the digits 1-9 so that they do not repeat in any row, column, or 3x3 box.

Dutch Flats
Every 5 in the grid must have a '1' directly above it or a '9' directly below it. It may have both, but it doesn't need both.

Even/Odd Lots
A digit in a square counts the number of even digits on its line.
A digit in a circle counts the number of odd digits on its line.

Disjoint Set
Digits on the circles/squares form a complete set of the digits 1 to 9.

Hint to start

9 by Disjoint is VERY limited. Flat Mates do good parity work in Box 6.

Hint to nudge

The pairs on each line sum to 9 (or are 9).
5s, particularly in Row 3 and therefore Row 1 can be tricky spots.

Lösungscode: Column 2 Digits

Nicely alternating between the use of parity and dutch flatmates. Had a consistent difficulty from start to finish, well done.
