This is my first attempt at anything serious related to pencil puzzles, so I struggled with the prompt, especially because I was quite busy at the time. Hopefully this turned out enjoyable nonetheless!
This puzzle was set for round 3 of the first Skunkworks League competition season hosted by damasosos92, in which participants get a few weeks to set a puzzle per round. For this round, among other constraints, puzzles had to contain a hole of exactly the shape seen in this puzzle, be a permaculture of 2 pencil puzzle genres from a given list, and have a size of 82 cells or less.
Rules:
Permaculture: Divide the grid into two orthogonally connected regions, one of which obeys Cave rules and the other of which obeys Yin-Yang Cave rules, each in isolation from the other.
Cave: Shade some cells so that the shaded cells are all connected orthogonally by other shaded cells to the edge of the Cave region, and the remaining unshaded cells form one orthogonally connected area. Clues cannot be shaded, and represent the total number of unshaded cells that can be seen in a straight line vertically or horizontally, including itself; shaded cells and the border of the Cave region block vision.
Yin-Yang Cave: Color every cell in the Yin-Yang Cave region with one of two colors such that all cells of each color are orthogonally connected and no 2x2 region is a single color. A digit in a cell indicates how many cells of the same color can be seen in a straight line horizontally or vertically from that cell, including itself, with cells of the other color or the border of the Yin-Yang cave region blocking vision.
Question marks: A ? represents a whole number; different ?'s may represent different numbers.
For answer check, draw a green edge between any two cells of different permaculture regions. Use the surface tool to color the Yin-Yang region containing the topmost Yin-Yang cell (breaking ties by leftmost possible cell) gray, and the shaded cells in the Cave region black (you are free to use any non-grayscale colors for other cells, they will not affect the answer check).
Solve online:
Lösungscode: For row 5, then row 6, the lengths of contiguous stretches of cells with the same shading and in the same permaculture region, from left to right. Numbers only, no spaces. (Ex: If a row were shaded A|B|A|BBB|CC|D, with different letters having different shading and/or permaculture region, the code would be 111321)
