The 4 cage is too easy! Don't fill it in yet, you're going pair hunting. I went scouting this morning and counted 36 pairs in the grid. I think you're experienced enough to hunt them all down. Put digits into the 4 cage when you can't find any more. Good luck!

36 pairs of what, exactly? How am I meant to know when I've found any of the "pairs", to even be able to know when I should do the 4-cage?
--
A pair refers to when two cells that "see" each other each have the same two candidates and can be pencil marked as such. 2 pairs x 36 = 72 cells, out of 81 in the grid. Therefore 9 cells will not form pairs. Fill in the 4 cage when you've pencilmarked all the pairs.

Which part is supposed to be left out: Filling in the pair in the 4-cage or resolving that pair (filling in the actual digits)?

Filling in the actual digits, it will reveal fog.
