Quadswallop

(Eingestellt am 20. Februar 2025, 10:59 Uhr von marty_sears)

Scojo recently set a 'cipher' prompt, so I decided to make this as a sort of sequel to Quad Code.

    Rules:

  • CHAOS CONSTRUCTION: Divide the grid into 8 regions each containing 8 orthogonally connected cells, and fill the grid with the digits 1-8 so that digits don't repeat in a row, column or region.

  • DOUBLERS: Each row, column and region contains exactly one doubler cell. The value of a doubler cell is double its digit. Each doubler cell contains a different digit.

  • QUADSWALLOP: Each digit 1-8 is represented by a different letter of the alphabet, to be determined. In each grey quad circle, 4 of the letters correspond to the digits (not values) in the surrounding 4 cells, but there is also one lying letter which does not correspond to any of the surrounding digits. The purple and green circles on the right can be used to keep track of letters in the grid, and their corresponding digits.

  • PURPLE X: Values separated by a purple X sum to 10, and are in the same region.

  • The two ends of a grey, red or blue line always lie in different regions. Red and blue lines have an additional rule:

  • PARITY LINES (RED): Two adjacent cells along a red line contain one even value and one odd value.

  • REGION SUM LINES (BLUE): Region borders divide blue lines into segments which each have the same total value.

  • Please leave a comment if you enjoy :)

Lösungscode: The letters corresponding to 82415

Puzzles like these make me wish for a "very, VERY nice" rating option! This was just wonderful. Amazing flow start to finish, multiple phases to the solve that were individually enjoyable, and a clever flourish at the end that I never saw coming basically until I filled in the last cell!

This was like an onion; peeling back layers and layers until you revealed what seemed like a completely different puzzle overlayed upon the previous work. Genieous, and the wit throughout with the wordplay even up until the very, very end... so fun and equally masterful!

I loved this puzzle, involving so many different places to look at. I think I solved it through the intended solve path and when reading the (hidden) comments, I don’t understand a thing that is discussed, hahaha.
Thank you Marty for another wolderful setting

Oh wow, what an amazing puzzle. Over an hour to solve for me, got mixed up on the regions once and had to restart. But so, so much fun to solve.

Absolutely fantastic, I really do not understand how you make puzzles like this and honestly surprise myself sometimes that I am able to solve some of them. Thanks!

Ha ha! You changed it when I was part way through.
I solved it using numbers only - there weren't any letters on my pad. Great fun, as always.

Marty: hehe sorry, I made a couple of small tweaks after a few people spotted a bit of logic that I hadn't noticed, which shortcutted some of the puzzle. Hopefully is fixed now. Thanks for solving!

Very interesting puzzle idea/premise. The wordplay is very impressive.

A pleasure to solve.

Nicely done. So many elements blended into one without becoming too intensive.

Side note: I couldn't use the cipher key on mobile (letters A-I, plus O only available) but that would have been rather limiting on your word choices to restrict yourself to those.

Another unique and brilliant creation from Marty. How someone can make an approachable CC with doublers and ciphers AND do something new with it all is beyond me.

Super nice flow and amazing easter eggs to confirm that it's the right path to the solution ;)
