Jisoku

By Nordy and Shintaro Fushida-Hardy

This genre is one of the outcomes of an extended exploration of self referential constraints for loops (and networks) together with Nordy. The name "Jisoku" (自測) means "self measurement" in Japanese (as well as the more common meaning of "speed" when written with different kanji). For a sudoku hybrid, check out Quiet Self-Reflection.

Rules:
  • Draw a non-intersecting loop that travels orthogonally through the centers of some cells.
  • Cells have three types: "empty" if they don't contain the loop, "turn" if the loop turns 90 degrees, and "straight" if the loop passes straight through. A number clue in the grid counts how many cells of the same type as itself are in the indicated direction (not including the clue cell).

We hope you enjoy the puzzle!

Jisoku I (Example)

Jisoku II

Lösungscode: Row 8 of Jisoku II; E for empty, S for straight, T for turn. E.g. ETSSTESTT.

Very fun genre. At first it felt like U-bahn on easy mode, but some deductions are still deep
