normal sudoku rules apply.
along a thermometer, digits must increase from the bulb end to the tip.
thermometers are also region sum lines: box borders divide each thermometer into two parts, and for each thermometer, the sum of the digits on one part must be equal to the sum of the digits on the other part. different thermometers may have different region sums.
as an example, the three-cell thermometer starting in row five, column one and extending vertically could be filled with 145, since that is an increasing sequence, and 1+4=5.
