Initial Setter Difficulty: 2/5.
Normal Sudoku rules apply
Place the digits 1-9 so that they do not repeat in any row, column, or 3x3 box.
Dutch Flats
Every 5 in the grid must have a '1' directly above it or a '9' directly below it. It may have both, but it doesn't need both.
Harmonious Thermometers
Digits along a thermometer must strictly increase from the bulb end. Additionally, the sum of the digits along a thermometer must be divisible by its number of cells. For example, if a thermometer consists of three cells, the sum of its digits must be a multiple of 3.
Hint to start
It might be easier to consider what needs to be excluded from the length 7 thermos to make the maths work, and how that affects the other rule...
Special Thanks
The inspiration for this week's puzzle was from the collab setter himself, and the puzzle Harmonious Thermos. Thank you again for the variant, and for sharing the setting with me!
Incredibly the Dutch Flat Mate series is now roughly queued until May!! We have a lovely upcoming run that includes collaboration setters that then become the following week's guest setter. The next 2 weeks guests are:
- Collab Setter sujoyku, becomes next week's guest setter with SUM-thing DIFFerent!
- And then Elytron making their 'official' series debut with a challenging twist on Kropkis!
It's worth noting that Elytron did release a lovely puzzle that deserved to be in the series Dutch Flat Shapes back in October.
Previous Dutch Flat Mate Puzzles
I have removed the list of previous puzzles in the series, as I've noticed it is starting to affect the LMD search function. The plan is to eventually list the Dutch Flat Mates on a linked spreadsheet, and ideally edit the LMD pages of the older puzzle pages too. For what it's worth, this has been a weekly series since '18 Oct 23' and is the 71st consecutive Wednesday!
Lösungscode: Digits from Row 6.
