Trickster

Trickster, by James Sinclair

Normal sudoku rules apply, and all clues are standard.
Indexing: digits in columns 1, 5, and 9 indicate the column in which the digit 1, 5, or 9 (respectively) appears in that row.
German whispers: along green lines, digits must differ from their neighbors by at least 5.
Nabner lines: gold lines contain a non-repeating set of digits, and no two digits on the same line can be consecutive (regardless of their position on the line).
Digits in cells with a shaded square must be even.

If you or someone you know might enjoy a weekly set of puzzles that are pretty approachable by LMD standards—more so than this one, but sometimes not by much—check out Artisanal Sudoku (and if you really want more indexing puzzles, check out Volume 159). Thanks!

Love seeing some more challenging 159s, my absolute favorite.

It really is interesting how the whispers, nabners and 159s interacted there. Very nice puzzle!

Struggled to break into the puzzle. But then, it flowed like a hot knife through butter.

Thanks for setting this! Good one.

Lovely idea for the break-in and a somewhat satisfying flow after that! Quite funny how everything resolved at the end x)

normally, i wouldn't even try a level 3 puzzle, because far too often on this site, it means "brutally hard".
BUT this is james sinclair, and i know ...
every time you take a step, the next step, which was previously hidden, will be revealed.
it is like the warcraft 3 tutorial. new waypoints are placed in the fog as you advance.

expertise with 159 is required, and strong familiarity with german whispers and nabner, but these can all be taught easily, so the puzzle remains "approachable".
