ON EDGE: Brown & Green

(Eingestellt am 9. Februar 2025, 11:08 Uhr von marty_sears)

This is the first episode of a mini-series featuring EDGELINES, a further exploration of the 'edge thermo' idea I started in The Heat Between Us. Each episode contains 3 parts; two 6x6 mini puzzles, finishing with a 9x9.

RULES (for part A):

  • Normal 6x6 sudoku rules apply.
  • Each spot along a coloured edgeline has a value, found by performing a calculation using the two digits it sits between:
  • SPOT RULES:

  • Sum (+) spots: The value of a spot with a plus sign equals the sum of the two digits it sits between.
  • Difference (-) spots: The value of a spot with a minus sign equals the larger digit minus the smaller digit.
  • Product (x) spots: The value of a spot with a multiplication sign equals the product of the two digits.
  • Ratio ( / ) spots: The value of a spot with a forward slash equals the larger digit divided by the smaller digit. (The value will always be an exact integer.)
  • LINE TYPES:

  • Brown lines are 'constant edgelines'. Spot values along a brown line are all the same. This constant value must be determined for each brown line.
  • Grey lines are 'edge thermos'. Spot values along an edge thermo strictly increase as you move away from the end with the bulb (the large spot.)
  • Please leave a comment if you enjoy :)

Lösungscode: Column 9 of the 9x9 grid, reading downwards.

Great puzzle!! I thought there was an ambiguity in part C but it turns out I missed a rule.

Here is the picture of my (wrong) solutions, in case someone already looked at it and wants to check why I was wrong (my mistake is in R4C7): https://imgur.com/a/89qnuFL

Thank you for a great puzzle!!

Had the pleasure of testing all the 6x6s but this was the first time I got to see the 9x9. Loved every minute!

Great job. Never stop innovating. Really cool how much new design space you make good puzzles out of.

Thanks to those who gave me feedback about part C - I have now removed the unnecessary thermo

Another lovely new ruleset! Took me a long time to wrap my head around the interactions, but very nice once I did!

Very nice! The first two parts were a nice introduction, which made the much harder part 3 doable.

Great intro to the new constraint, the interactions between different line types in 3rd puzzle are beautiful. Hope to see more edgeline puzzles in the future, I feel they have a lot of potential.
P.S. Maybe it's cause of the same graphics, but I'm already thinking about a crossover with another great series of yours, Finkz might enjoy a labyrinth made of edgelines instead of regular walls.
P.P.S. Small suggestion: post full rules for every puzzle, not only the first one; sometimes you want to re-read the rules and it's not always super convenient to return to the previous puzzle(s) to do it, especially on the phone.

Marty: thankyou for the nice comments and the feedback regarding the rules. I have updated so they are all there as a reminder in each part
