The variant sudoku community has undeniably changed my life for the better, so there truly is no more fitting way to celebrate the milestone of
100 publications to my LMD page than with a puzzle that my friends on my
Twitch channel helped me set for a collaborative series created by the brilliant
ViKingPrime, which features some wonderful people who also happen to be genius constructors.
I must also thank
Dorlir for nominating me and providing a disjoint set (the Bulls, not the Flags!) after he constructed the
previous puzzle in the series,
Marty Sears for suggesting this brilliant title and theming, and especially
Flinty and
blackjackfitz, who were enormously helpful in setting and testing. This hobby really would be nothing without these and so many more wonderful people.
SUDOKU:
- Place a digit from 1-9 in every cell within the bold outlined 9x9 grid;
- Digits do not repeat in a row, column or 3x3 box.
TAURUS TORUS:
- Draw 9 straight diagonal lines, each through the centres of at least 3 cells;
- Every line contains exactly one Bull and one Red Flag;
- Different lines do not cross or share cells;
- The grid is a torus, i.e. row 1 wraps around to row 9 and column 1 wraps around to column 9 as shown.
BULLS:
- No two Bulls contain the same digit;
- The digit on a Bull is the average (mean) of all digits on its line.
FLAGS:
- No two Red Flags contain the same digit;
- The digit on a Red Flag is friendly, i.e. it equals its own row, column or box number.
- Rows, columns and boxes are numbered 1-9 from top to bottom, left to right, and in reading order respectively.
Previous puzzles in the
Zodiac Project
I have nominated
vitaminz (also known as Justin V or
Puzzle Pusher) to construct the next puzzle in the series, with a disjoint set selected by my 1-year-old daughter, Orla... Well, these were the first 9 of the 60 or so cells her fingers ended up tapping.

Lösungscode: Digits on lines in row 4, left to right

Logic - beautiful.
Brain - dead after all that math... haha
I feel I would have had a smoother ride if I was more mathematically minded, but once I got the logic straight in my head some noodling on the calculator helped narrow options, and the line logic *chefs kiss*

Surprisingly doable TPP puzzle :)
Excellent use of geometry throughout. Every deduction felt obvious once you see it.

This wasn't nearly as intimidating as I was expecting for an anniversary puzzle (especially with your well-earned reputation!). Thank you so much for all the good times - looking forward to the next 100.
