Two Truths and a Truth

(Eingestellt am 8. Januar 2025, 17:56 Uhr von ChinStrap)

I like the concept of Two Truths and a Lie, but too often you need a lot of different clue types and the associated rules. Inspired by my collaboration with gdc and his twist on 2T1L in Cagey Architects, I wanted to do something similar where you needed very few clue types to still do it.

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply, i.e. each row, column and 3x3 region has to contain the digits from 1 to 9 once each.
  • For each set of 3 lines that are the same color (and line styling), 2 of those are index lines and 1 is a thermometer. No line can be ambiguously both.
  • Index Lines: The digit in the Nth cell along the line (starting from the bulb) indicates the position along the line where the digit N appears. For example, 3214 is a valid index line, the 1st digit, 3, indicates that the 3rd digit is a 1, and so on.
  • Theromometers: Digits along a thermometer must strictly increase starting from the bulb.

All feedback (positive or critical) appreciated!

Lösungscode: Row 3, left to right (9 digits)

Very impressive setup, with the solve flowing quite nicely. After a few puzzles with index lines, I'm starting to get a better intuition about them, and having to lift the ambiguity of the nature of the lines felt pretty good.

This was beautifully put together. I'm inclined to agree with VKP... if this isn't my favourite puzzle of yours it is definitely in the top 3.

There were a few tricky things to spot but overall there was a tremendously smooth and satisfying flow. And it felt surprising that only three sets of clues were enough to lead to a solution. I even loved the styling and colour choices for the lines. Lovely stuff.

This is my new favourite puzzle of yours! which is bothersome, because it feels like now I'm going to have make more liar puzzles. You and gdc, nothing but trouble, you two...

Lovely break-in and kept turning up nice deductions to work through the ambiguity.

I loved this puzzle very much. While the puzzle involved a good deal of scanning, it was always well-telegraphed how to proceed. The ambiguous index/thermo logic felt fresh and I enjoyed how cracking the red lines allowed for a burst of disambiguation at the finishing stage. Thank you for setting and sharing this fun puzzle, ChinStrap!
