Knight of Chaos

(Published on 4. December 2024, 18:44 by Andrewsarchus)

Rules:
  • Normal Irregular Sudoku rules apply.
    Regions must be deduced.

  • Eight of the regions are orthogonally connected.

  • The ninth region is connected by knight's moves forming a knight's path from digit 1 to digit 9 in ascending order.

  • No two cells in the ninth region touch each other, not even diagonally, and each row and column contains exactly one cell from the ninth region.

  • Arrows outside of the grid indicate rows, columns, or diagonals, in which the digit in the first cell seen by the arrow matches the number of distinct regions along the path of the arrow.
There is no negative constraint on arrows.

  • Circles count the number of cells (including themselves) in the surrounding 3x3 neighborhood which belong to the same region as the circled cell.

  • Squares count the number of distinct regions, not including their own region, which have cells in the surrounding 3x3 neighborhood.

  • All possible circles and squares are given.

  • Black dots separate digits in a 2:1 ratio.
There is no negative constraint on black dots.

This was an incredible puzzle, and the ninth knight's region is a great invention, and work of genius. This was so difficult that it genuinely took me about a week to solve, but I'm glad I broke in eventually and managed it. Thank you!

If the ninth region's constraints is a finding of yours, hats off. It works incredibly well.
Great puzzle. Thx a lot.

I probably made several steps more difficult than they needed to be by consistently forgetting about negative constraints, but nevertheless that was a fantastic puzzle!

I love the irregular knight's region construct. This is a brilliant puzzle. The negative constraints here are pretty powerful but it took me a while to fully internalize them. Very tricky but very rewarding.
