Numb Numerals

(Eingestellt am 22. November 2024, 08:42 Uhr von kieserel)

Rules:

Normal sudoku rules apply.

Digits in cages do not repeat and sum to the value given in the corner of the cage. Every cage has a circle inside it. Digit in the cell with a small circle represents a base for the numerical system in which cage's total is given. For example, if cage total is 132 and number in its circle is 4, then its sum is 1x16+3x4+2=30.

That was a tedious monstrosity of a puzzle.. unfortunately I saw two digits in that preview image and I had to try it....
Took me twenty minutes to set up a base-conversion table for the numbers before even clicking the link (hehe cheeting much?) and it was brilliant... I thought I blast through this like a hot knife;
aaaaand I failed miserably *LOL* (could place just either 5 OR 2 in box 1),
tried to trace back my error, but couldn't and eventually had to start over.
66mins since said restart (I'd say with the 20min set up fair to add another hour or such)
A very lovely puzzle idea, I love how the bases are determined.

Hello! I'm very sorry you found it tedious. You only really need to understand how 45 cages work right off the start, you consider your limited options and go from there. 202, 33 and 111 will wall into place eventually.

#########
tedious in the sense of lengthy (not boring mind you);
Me not being able to base convert and keep track of all available options in my head (the 33 cage started with 25 options alone; even after filtering the non viable ones) and thus having to write them down creating a look up table of sorts to actually get to solving.
I solved the puzzle already when I initially commented, so yeah -uhm- a bit late for a hint, but thank you ;-)
