@asp1310, it is a pretty terrible sudoku design indeed. Let's hope it improves in future . Diagonal lines design is also a bad idea

@Casp_P Considering there are multiple split thermos across the rest of the puzzle, and none that cross over themselves, I don't think that's the case. It would be pretty terrible Sudoku design to use something that look the same (a thermo branching into multiple other lines) to represent two entirely different things (a split, and also crossing over itself).

For me it was rather obvious that the thermo in box 6 HAD to cross and continue clockwise. If this WOULDN'T be the case, the thermo would not cross and just go down from it's 3rd to 4th digit, following a counterclockwise sequence

@geronimo92 In box 6 there is a split thermo too, creating a set of 4 thermo cells with no obvious end. There is a split at the centrepoint of r4c8, r4c9, r5c8 and r5c9. This means that the highest point of the four cells below it must be in r5c8, r5c9, r6c8 or r6c9. Are we meant to work this out for ourselves?

hello I am the person who made this puzzle. look at this <img:000RLY>

@burgermason Yet again, I am not talking about box three. I am talking about box SIX. There is a thermo starting at r6c7 which splits into three paths at the centrepoint of r4c8, r4c9, r5c8 and r5c9. One of these endpoints is clearly r4c9. But there is no obvious endpoint of the other two paths since they connect. Are we meant to work out which of those four cells are the endpoint? Look at my own image to see the four possible endpoints of that thermo section with directions of increasing digits: https://i.imgur.com/YPkusej.png

I do not see how box 6 would be confusing. The way that the sudoku puzzle creators work does not allow the user to make a thermometer bounce off of a corner, it must continue into the next box.

@burgermason Look at the image I posted. I showed exactly how it is confusing! The thermometer I am talking about is entirely contained within Box 6.

THAT IS THE ONE I AM TALKING ABOUT YOU DIM-WIT

@burgermason I posted an Imgur link. Can you please just tell me which of the possible iterations is the correct one for the solve? Top-left, top-right, bottom-left or bottom-right? https://i.imgur.com/YPkusej.png None of those bounce off corners nor go into another box.

In box 3 not 6 asp1310 ! Your question is not needed because the answer is obvious

How does the split thermo in Box 6 work? Is the "end" point of the loop part to be determined by the solver?

Also the background is really messing with my vision anyway; is there a way to turn it off?

Yes, it's just a king's move restriction. Fun GAS. 3:43 today.

I'm a little confused about the rule set, isn't that just king's move restriction?
