Foggy Pea-losophy

(Eingestellt am 2. November 2024, 15:44 Uhr von SamuPiano)

The ideas for this puzzle have been rattling around in my head for two months. Finally, I figured out a nice way to execute it! I hope you enjoy!

Many thanks to gdc for inspiring this puzzle with his brilliant Sus Yin Yang, among others, as well as testing and providing aesthetic help!

Also, thank you to sujoyku for testing of several different versions of this one, as well as encouraging me to continue with this idea! This puzzle would not have reached its final state without this assistance.

If you would like to see Simon from Cracking the Cryptic tackle this puzzle, there is a video of his solve here.

Without further ado, here are the rules:

Rules:

Sudoku: Normal sudoku rules apply.
Fog: The grid is partially covered in fog. Placing correct digits will clear some of the fog in the grid.
Yin Yang: Shade some cells so that all shaded cells are orthogonally connected, and all unshaded cells are orthogonally connected. No 2x2 region can be completely shaded or unshaded. R5C5 is neither shaded nor unshaded in the final grid.
Split Peas: The sum of the digits on a line strictly between two circles must be equal to a concatenation of the digits in that line's circles. For instance, 3-346-1 could be a valid split pea line, as 3+4+6=13, which is a concatenation of 3 and 1.
Pea Circles: Each circle in the puzzle indicates the number of cells along each line directly connected to the circle, including the bounding circles, which are of the same shading as the circle.
Line Movement: All lines travel orthogonally. Lines may not branch or cross, except at circles.
XV: Digits separated by an X sum to 10. Digits separated by a V sum to 5. Not all X or V are given.

Lösungscode: The digits in column 7 of the same shading as R1C7, from top to bottom.

Excellent puzzle. The line from box [REDACTED] was a beautifully elegant piece of logic to open up so much.

Thank you for solving the puzzle and I'm glad you liked that piece! That was one of my favorite steps when setting, so I'm glad you found the same joy in it that I did! If you don't mind, I have redacted the exact box(es) to prevent spoilers.
Thank you again! -SP

Amazing work! Really like "coloring on top of fog" puzzles and this one fits that genre very neatly. Cool interaction between the counting property and fog. So many fresh ideas in this one!

Thank you for this great puzzle, SamuPiano! The split peas with additional shade-counting is such a fun idea. It already has been a joy to test-solve it. Thank you for setting and sharing!
-----
Thank you for your kind comment, sujoyku! Ever since we discussed a similar concept a few months ago, I was just looking for a nice configuration. Thank you for encouraging me to continue with what I had so far after I was about to give up on it; this puzzle turned into something I am very proud of, and it only exists in this state thanks to your support. I really appreciate it! -SP
