Dutch Flat Mates: Schrödinger's Flatmate

(Eingestellt am 1. Januar 2025, 00:00 Uhr von ViKingPrime)

PUZZLE:

Play on SudokuPad

RULES:

"Normal" SCHRÖDINGER rules apply
(i.e. place the digits 0-9 once each in every row, column and box; two of the digits will have to share a Schrödinger cell; each row, column and box contains exactly one Schrödinger cell).

Every Schrödinger cell is also a Dutch Flat Mate (DFM) cell, occupied by the digit 5 and either a 1 or 9.

The digits within a KILLER cage must sum to the number in the top-left corner (if given) and cannot repeat.

INTRODUCTION:

Happy New Year!

It's truly an honour to be invited to set for one of the most prestigious (and what has to be the longest running) sudoku series of all. What else could I do but sully that fine reputation with the inclusion of Schrödinger cells?

If this is your first time encountering the Dutch Flat Mate constraint, you may want to explore the back catalogue before tackling this one, as this twists the constraint into something a little different. For those of you who may be hesitant about 10-in-9 puzzles, the inclusion of the Dutch Flat Mate cell adds a bit of freshness while also removing some of the bite out of the logic involved.

Have fun!

Lösungscode: All digits within Schrödinger cells, lowest digit first, top-row to bottom-row.

Wonderful flatmates and Schrodinger combo. Those pesky 0s still managed to trip me up a couple times though in my sums!

My first puzzle solve with Schrödinger cells. Had to rewind a few times but finally got through. Great addition to the series.

On the harder side of 3 stars for me. Really enjoyed it, thank you for setting and sharing!

Schrodinger cells both attract and distract me. I'm not one to retract from subtracting time in my day to extract their exact values.

Thanks for another lovely puzzle!

I enjoyed this new take on the DFM very much. Thank you for setting and sharing this wonderful puzzle, ViKingPrime! Schrödinger always intimidates me a bit, but I found the puzzle to be surprisingly approachable.

Updated difficulty (per Flinty's gentle admonishments).

Only took me 60 minutes to solve this time, although it is my second time solving - haha - I can't believe this has been in the Flat Mate queue since October! Crazy stuff.

3/5 is a bold claim VP! I've gone for 4/5 on difficulty (and obviously 5/5 for the puzzle). A standout addition to the series. Thank you so much. :)

The first masterpiece solved by me in this new year of 2025!

Ooh, I don't know if I've seen many other Schrödinger puzzles with constraints on what the Schrödinger cells can be. This was interesting and fun, thanks!
