This puzzle was created in collaboration with the illustrious 3good5you, whom I have always admired greatly! We were randomly paired together for a setting competition in the Sudoku Skunkworks discord server, and we pulled out all the stops!
Warning: This is, by far, the hardest puzzle that I have ever made (or helped make). If you are up for a challenge, this is certainly one!
With that out of the way, we were given four puzzles and told to choose 2 of them to mesh together into a new puzzle, a la Dr. Frankenstein. The puzzles that we chose out of those four were:
Order Out Of Chaos by zzw
Orchard by Xenotenix
And, without further ado, here are the rules:
Rules:
Chaos Deconstruction:
Place nine orthogonally connected regions, each containing all digits from 1-9, into the grid. Digits may not repeat in any row, column, or region. Cells outside of a region do not contain digits.
Orchard: All cells with digits must form an orthogonally connected area with no orthogonally connected loops. This includes 2x2 areas of digit-containing cells.
Japanese Sums (JSS) and Gap Clues: Each row of clues outside the grid corresponds to exactly one row in the grid. The first number in the set of clues is the gap clue, and indicates the number of contiguous stretches of empty cells in that row. Each number afterwards is a JSS clue, and indicates the sum of all digits in a contiguous stretch of cells belonging to the same region in the row (ending either at the edge of the grid, an empty cell, or a different region). Each JSS clue corresponds to an unique stretch of digits; all such clues are given. The same applies to columns of clues and columns in the grid.
Question Marks: ? may represent any digit from 0-9, to be deduced by the solver; however, leading zeroes are not allowed.
Double Sorting: Within each row, all JSS clues have been sorted from lowest to highest. All rows have then been sorted from lowest to highest by value of the first JSS clue, breaking ties using subsequent JSS clues in order. (To clarify, the gap clue travels with the set of JSS clues if it is moved during the sort.) The same applies to sorting within each column of clues, then sorting all columns of clues.
Here is an example to demonstrate the sorting in a completed, small grid.

Happy solving, and good luck! If you enjoyed this puzzle, please leave a comment and check out some of our other puzzles!
Lösungscode: The row corresponding to the 11th row of given clues, with X for any empty cells, and a hypen (-) for region borders (only if there are no empty cells in between).

This was an incredible puzzle. I really struggled getting my head around the rules, but once I got them straight there was so much goodness. It barely seems possible that this could be solveable, but each stage led so beautifully to the next.

Utterly monstrous, but utterly incredible. Takes an already complicated and ridiculous puzzle in Order out of Chaos, and somehow makes it even crazier.
It took rather a long time to solve, but was certainly worth. Lots of interesting and complex logic involved, and it's incredible how it all comes together to resolve, especially the ending.
Not a lot of actual clues, but they all play a part. very impressive.
Thanks for the puzzle.

It's alive, it's alive, IT'S ALIVE!
It's been a great pleasure working with you, and I'm still incredibly happy with (and surprised by) the result!
