This series, which features identical grids with changing rules, can be played by clicking on the image above and following links in each puzzles' solution message.
Alternatively, feel free to skip to:
-
Part one (Caterpillars), est. difficulty 2.5/5;
-
Part two (Cocoons), est. difficulty 2/5;
-
Part three (Butterflies), est. difficulty 4.5/5.
Butterflies is the "main event" as this features the Full Rank Arrows that I introduced in my submission to the
Caterdokupillar organised by
Memeristor. I wanted to create an adapted version of this puzzle to publish on LMD, which explores similar logical ideas but is different enough that solvers are still motivated to check out the full Caterdokupillar!
When I realised I only needed to tweak a few of the lines for the puzzle to become unique and solvable with the exact same line placements and two different rulesets and a running "Odd One Out" motif, I knew I had to pursue the caterpillar theme to create three linked puzzles. The first two puzzles may not blow your mind, but they do include a satisfying amount of interesting logic for puzzles whose existence is essentially just coincidental, based on the the arrow placements for part three. This way, Metamorphosis can also be considered my revenge for the 45 puzzles with identical line placements that I solved while judging turn one of The Skunkworks League!
Thanks to
my dad,
LMDemasi and
Sotehr for help with testing.

So interesting and satisfying!! I love how you push the envelope with these minis! I actually had a much harder time with the 1st puzzle than the 3rd. The rank up series definitely helped me unravel the 3rd puzzle.
I hope you continue to enjoy creating fiendishly difficult minis!

You know it is a ThePedallingPianist puzzle when you stare at a blank grid for an hour and then just solve the puzzle! Almost like the solve path was developing in a cacoon, ready to burst out into a beautiful butterfly when you were finally ready to see it. Lovely stuff
