This is my response to
Scojo's setting prompt this week, where we were asked to make a puzzle in our own style and then impersonate the style of another setter with a second puzzle the following week.
I want to give due credit to the setter who inspired this intro:
my impostor (spoiler alert). Seriously, though,
his puzzle in my style is stunningly clever and witty, and the idea that I could've set it is an enormously humbling compliment.
Fully Charged was actually the second draft of this idea. The first is far too similar a puzzle in terms of the main deductions required to warrant its own LMD page, and I think
Fully Charged is the smoother of the two, but some of the disambiguations were a little more interesting in the other puzzle, I'd say.
Squischröquadri (first draft of
Fully Charged)
Normal Squischröquadri rules apply: The grid contains four 3x3 boxes, which overlap at the dashed lines. An S-cell is a cell that contains two digits, and its value is the sum of its digits. Place one or two digits from 0-9 into every cell such that:
- No digit may repeat in a row, column or box;
- No digit may appear in more than one S-cell;
- No row, column or box may contain more than one S-cell.
Local constraints: Values in a cage sum to the given total; values on a yellow arrow sum to the value in the arrow's orb; an inequality sign points to a lower value.
Lösungscode: VALUES in column 5, top to bottom

Smooth is not the first word that comes to my mind after solving this, but it is incredibly clever and beautiful... in addition to being brutal.

This puzzle was the very last one I solved in my 4 day marathon of 48 impostor puzzles. As exhausted as I was, finally discovering the breakthrough to this puzzle literally had me shaking with excitement, and that burst of adrenaline really did suddenly make me feel fully charged. I couldn't ask for a better puzzle to be the finale to that event.

If you only ever solve one Squischröquadri, make it this one.
