Swimming in the Seine
(Eingestellt am 25. September 2024, 11:45 Uhr von Scojo)
This puzzle was set for the CTC Discord's August 2024 monthly puzzle prompt of "Paris Olympics and Paralympics 2024."
Rules:
- Normal sudoku rules apply: Place the digits 1-9 once each in every row, column, and 3x3 box.
- Three Olympic swimmers are racing down the Seine River. Unfortunately, the river is polluted with raw sewage which will slow down any swimmer that comes into contact with it. In this puzzle, raw sewage is represented by the digit 7.
- For each swimmer, draw a path from their starting position in column 9 to one of the three medals in column 1. The digit in any cell along a swimmer's path will determine which cell they will swim to next. If the digit is a 1, 2, or 3, the swimmer will move diagonally up to the left. If the digit is a 4, 5, or 6, the swimmer will move directly to the left. If the digit is a 7, 8, or 9, the swimmer will move diagonally down to the left. Swimmers' paths may cross each other, and must remain within the confines of the grid.
- The swimmer who touches the least amount of raw sewage (the digit 7) will finish at the gold medal in row 3, the swimmer who touches the second least amount will finish at the silver medal in row 5, and the swimmer who touches the most amount will finish at the bronze medal in row 7.
- Additionally, each swimmer's path will follow a different variant rule.
- Each digit along the path of the German swimmer, who starts in row 3, must have a difference of at least 5 with neighboring digits on the path.
- Each digit along the path of the British swimmer, who starts in row 5, must have a different even/odd parity with neighboring digits along the path.
- Region borders divide the path of the American swimmer, who starts in row 7, into segments which each have an equal sum.
