The Goldilocks Zone

(Eingestellt am 14. September 2024, 15:04 Uhr von marty_sears)

It was tremendous fun recently taking part in Scojo's 'Impostor Challenge'. We had to make two puzzles, one in our own style and one impersonating another setter who was assigned to us. This was my 'puzzle in my own style', and people had to guess which of two puzzles was really by me; this Goldilocks one, or this one, which was actually by the sneaky PedallingPianist, who did an amazing job impersonating me. Total coincidence that he also chose a children's story as the theme, but shows how well he knows me! I was assigned Heliopolix to impersonate, a very fun challenge as his style is rather different from mine; he makes amazing and genius puzzles but they are often quite a lot harder and more elaborate than mine. I will be publishing my attempt in the next few days on LMD.

    Rules:

    Normal sudoku rules apply

Divide the grid into 3 zones. Each zone consists of a single group of orthogonally connected cells. No 2x2 area may be entirely within one zone.

The first zone is 'too hot'. Any cell in the hot zone has a value one greater than its digit.

The second zone is 'too cold'. Any cell in the cold zone has a value one less than its digit.

The third zone is 'just right'; this is the Goldilocks Zone. In this zone, a cell's value equals its digit, like normal.

The 9 objects (bowls, chairs and beds) all contain different digits, but each object of the same type has the same value.

Zone borders (NOT box borders) divide blue lines into segments, each of which has the same total (ie; the sum of its VALUES.) The two ends of a blue line always lie in different zones.

neither too easy, nor too hard...

I was so happy with myself for solving this.

Then I entered the solution code, and apparently I didn't solve it correctly.

Edit: then I realised that I just misunderstood the instructions for finding the solution code - one final twist in the tale.

Once you get past the break in deduction this isn't too hard! I'd say closer to three stars. The variant on normal yin yang doesn't throw things off too much and the clues do s good job guiding you. Fantastic fun.

My very first puzzle I did and I'm very proud of myself, it's such a great puzzle to explore. I did some mistakes when it comes to yin yang at the beginning but it was a great adventure.

Both parts, the Yin Yang Yong, and finding the digits were so clever and enjoyable. After starting the digits, I had to rework the Yin and Yang for box 1 twice. Finally, it was just right.

Absolutely fantastic! The break-in was a little tricky but not unreasonable and everything flowed beautifully afterwards. Truly incredible, thank you :)

Ying Yang Young doubles the fun. So a 200% rating for this one.

I don't know what makes the Ying-Yang rule so much fun to solve. But I know that adding a color makes it just right :) Thanks so much for setting such a nice one!

My only worry is that both the real and the fake Marty are spoiling us with their masterpieces. Can these ever get any better or more entertaining? Both yes and no feel a bit frightening.

Seriously, thank you for your amazing work!

Oh dear! There are some special laws for YYY I never heard of! So I had to find and prove them by myself… That was not easy - but so satisfying. Thank you so much - again - for making me happy while sharing your outstanding puzzles.

This isn't too hard or too easy, in fact you might say it's just right.

Absolutely insane beauty. There were so many "aha!" moments that were so intricate and perfect that I felt you were winking at me from behind the screen. Not only did this display your intelligence and wit, I felt like I became more intelligent and more witty simply by solving it.

An absolutely stunning puzzle - I tried my best, but there was no way I could've out-Marty-ed this one!
