Look It Up

Thanks to marty_sears for introducing me to this line type and letting me contribute to a hopefully ongoing series with him. He has helped me learn a lot about the art of setting.

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Index Lines: On an index line, the digit in the Nth cell along the line (starting from the diamond) indicates the position along the line where the digit N appears. If multiple lines exist with the same diamond, each line is treated as separate. Eg: 3214 would be a valid line; the 1st digit, 3, indicates that the 3rd digit is a 1, and so on.
  • White Kropki Dots: Cells connected by a white dot are consecutive. Not all such dots are given.

Index lines are a great rule, but index lines that have shared squares interact in such interesting ways! Fantastic puzzle.

Definitely helps to have learned some 'secrets' about these lines from Marty's puzzle. Great take on the constraint!

A fantastic use of this constraint, with a very elegant design. Surprising that this solves with so few clues. The idea of having multiple lines coming out of one diamond added a cool new layer to the logic. I found a few parts rather tricky but the realisations that eventually came were always satisfying
