Minimhibition

Rules:

Normal sudoku rules apply: Place the digits 1 through 9 in each cell without repeating a digit in a row, column, or box.

Average sums: Each line in the grid is one of the four following types of lines: renban, region sum, german whisper, or thermometer. In addition to the lines' standard rules (specified below), each type of line has a different value N, a whole number which is the average value of each line of that type and which must be deduced by the solver. For example, if the N for thermometer lines is 6, each thermo will sum to six times its length and no other type of line can have that average value.

The type of each line must also be deduced by the solver. Each type of line appears at least once. A line may follow the rules for more than one type of line (e.g., a line with digits 1-2-3 could be either a thermometer or renban line), in which case its type is determined by its average value.

Standard line variant rules:

  • Renban lines consist of a set of non-repeating consecutive digits in any order.
  • Region sum lines are separated by box borders into segments with equal sums. (Any such lines cross at least one box border.)
  • Adjacent cells on German whisper lines must have digits differing by at least 5.
  • Cells on Thermometer lines increase from one end to the other. (The solver must deduce which end is the 'bulb', or low end.)
