Doubledoku Intro

(Published on 20. July 2024, 17:50 by RockyRoer)

So, I've been playing with 'Doubledoku' rules lately and wanted to showcase and introduce people to the logic. Here's a set of puzzles I hope accomplishes that. These are meant to be done in order as you will probably learn some scanning techniques along the way.

I've only seen one other puzzle with similar rules -- "Double Vision" by JollyRogers (this one does not have the anti-adjacent rule). Let me know if anyone else has a similar puzzle and I'll add a link.

I hope others find the ruleset enjoyable and try to make some of their own. Toward that end, here's two templates with a custom rule built into them thanks to Sirxemic:

6x6 Sudokumaker Template

8x8 Sudokumaker Template

The Rules:

  • [Doubledoku]: In each 6x6 grid, Doubledoku rules apply.
    • Fill each row and column with the digits from 1 to 3 TWICE each.
    • Digits in adjacent cells must be different.
  • Standard variant rules apply:
    • [Arrows] Numbers along an arrow sum to the digit in the circle
    • [Kropki] White dots separate cells that have a difference of 1. Black dots separate cells with a ratio of 2:1. Not all dots are given
    • [Thermometer] Digits along a thermo must increase from the bulb to the tip.
    • [Killer] In a killer cage, numbers cannot repeat

The Puzzle: Try it on Sven's Sudokupad

Solution code: The digits in row three of the central grid

Thanks for the great series of puzzles! Fun and interesting - I liked how they ramp up in difficulty, getting you used to the ruleset.

Different and interesting (and enjoyable). Not going to become the new normal, would be my prediction :)

Reply: Maybe not - but I've enjoyed it, and if someone else can create something, than I'll have fun solving them too. Thanks for the solve!
