Copycat Blues

(Published on 20. July 2024, 06:28 by Scojo)

This puzzle was co-set with the brilliant Marty Sears for the CTC Discord's July 2024 monthly puzzle prompt of "Rallies."

Rules:
  • Normal sudoku rules apply: Place the digits 1-9 once each in every row, column, and 3x3 box.
  • Copycat Cells: Place 9 Copycat Cells into the grid so that there is exactly one Copycat Cell in each row, column, and 3x3 box. Each Copycat Cell must contain a different digit. The value of a Copycat Cell is the digit in the cell rotationally opposite itself in the grid (180° rotation about the center of the grid). For example, if r2c3 is a Copycat Cell containing the digit 5, and r8c7 contains the digit 9, the value of r2c3 is the digit in r8c7, which is 9.
  • Region Sum Lines: Box borders divide darker blue lines into segments. The values of the cells on each segment of a line must sum to the same total. This total must be determined for each darker blue line.
  • Same Difference Lines: The values of adjacent digits on a turquoise line always have the same difference. This difference must be determined for each turquoise line.

Tricky middle, very easy (for me anyway!) to incorrectly eliminate options that were actually possible - broke it a few rimes till I saw, hey this option actually works.
