Holographic Principle (Chaos Construction)

(Published on 18. July 2024, 04:07 by sfushidahardy)

I wanted to try setting a puzzle with the motif of "boundary data" determining internal structure, and it seems to have miraculously worked better than I had hoped! I hope you enjoy it.

  • Chaos construction: the digits 1~9 occur exactly once in every row, column, and orthogonally connected region. The region-borders must be deduced.
  • Arrows: the digit in a cell with arrows is the total number of cells belonging to the same region seen by the arrows in the cell. (This includes the cell itself.) Entering different regions obstructs this vision.
Solve Holographic Principle on Sudokupad!

The following example grid demonstrates how arrows behave:

Solution code: The digits in row 7, with a forward-slash at region boundaries. For example, 123/45/6789.

Fun puzzle! Some neat logic, using a fairly common chaos construction ruleset well. Pretty impressive grid layout.
A few slightly tricky spots, but nothing too hard.

I find chaos construction the final boss of variant sudoku. Often it can get very tedious in the middle, but this kept a nice consistent level of challenge throughout.

Fun puzzle. Thanks, @ sfushidahardy :).

Another very fun CC! I had to be pretty careful with this one, as I realized a couple of times I overlooked a possibility, but it was still quite satisfying to finally crack!

Wonderful puzzle! Broke it badly on my first attempt but after noticing the incorrect assumption I made, the second attempt was much smoother (but by no means easy!)

Awesome line of sight CC with a great design ! Thanks :)

Wildly fun! How in the world do you even construct that?! Took me two hours and one unnecessary reset. I thought I broke it, started over, then got back to the same conclusions. I enjoyed the many interactions of regions, arrows, sudoku, etc. Great puzzle!

Rule clarification.

If an arrow encounters another region the sight is blocked. If it then re-enters the starting region, do those cells count in the total?

For instance: An arrow is in the 'red' region and it points directly into a cell from the 'green' region, but on the other side of that green cell there are two more cells from the red region. Is this arrow consider a 1 or a 3?

It seems like it's a 1, based on my understanding of the rules, but I'd like to make sure I'm understanding this correctly.

Thanks.

Astonishing CC! How I loved the walk on the solving path, though it was not easy to find at some steps. Thank you so much for sharing this masterpiece.

awesome puzzle! loved the region construction, which had some cool surprises, and the irregular sudoku at the end was very smooth
