I rated this 3/5 difficulty.
Wonderful puzzle and fun ruleset! The counting cards rule felt very comparable to the more-common 'counting circles' rule - as it is basically the same idea but with different flavors/groups of separate sets (rather than only 1 'group').
I really enjoyed the overall idea of the puzzle, and like others have mentioned, the way the overlapping cells play a role in disambiguating digits/counts in suit-sets was a really cool idea. It was really cool that the different sizes of the sudoku squares actually impacted cells of the same suit across boxes (without the cells 'seeing' each other with normal overlap rules), as well.
I thought the puzzle was fairly approachable (at least for a high-intermediate solver), and I immediately 'knew' how the number of cells in each suit would restrict things, but I missed a really basic idea in the beginning (regarding the most restricted suit), so I spent about 15 minutes stumped. I then spotted the idea and the rest of the puzzle was smooth from there. I really should have spotted that earlier as it was very straightforward and totally fair. The break-in and early game felt around 3/5 difficulty. Possibly on the 'harder' end of 3* puzzles.
The rest of the puzzle (midgame until completion) was also straightforward, and it also felt around 3/5 difficulty.
Thanks for sharing!

This was very entertaining to solve, going back and forth between counting, sudoku, and coloring cells. It was not at all obvious to me how the last bits would resolve until the end.

didnt feel like four-star difficulty to me — its not a quick solve, but none of the logic was too difficult or too hidden.
also i think the dealer is cheating, thats way more diamonds than a deck of card should have! :)
thanks for the puzzle!

I've never seen overlapping grids play such a key role in the logic of the puzzle. A fantastic construction, and beautifully presented. Thank you so much!

Hi ! For a stranger to the referenced card game, could you explain what a "suit' means in the context of this puzzle ?
---
juggler: Club, Diamond, Heart, or Spade (the four shapes you see in the puzzle). You can replace "suit" with "shape" if you like.
----
Sktx: Thank you for the tip. And for the puzzle, it's a wonderful construction, with really rich logic, I loved it !

First solve! (Among those who weren't co-authors of the puzzle! lol.) Really exceptional setting--the logic was tight, varied, and satisfying. I feel like you've created a perfect manifestation of your ruleset!
