Happy birthday to
Marty Sears, a genius setter who has brought our community so much joy!
This started out life as a Pairdoku for
Scojo's setting prompt, but having such tiny and similar grids makes it a little too easy to lose the mystery of what your partner's grid looks like! You are nevertheless welcome and encouraged to solve this with a friend!
Apologies to
Ratfinkz for plagiarising the line shapes in her
birthday puzzle for Marty, which is also well worth checking out!

Left Grid: normal sudoku rules apply, i.e. place the digits 1-3 once each in every row and column.
Right Grid: normal somedoku rules apply, i.e. place a digit from 1 to 3 in every cell such that each row N and column N have N distinct digits.
Chocolate Banana Bonanza: in each of the two grids, shade some cells such that all shaded regions (chocolate) form a square or rectangle shape, and unshaded regions (banana) do not. A digit in a circle shows the number of cells in its region. N.B. Shading and unshading only applies to the 18 cells in the two grids.
Marty's Counting Bonanza: a digit in a shaded cell (chocolate) shows how many times that digit appears in shaded cells across both grids.
Marty's Difference Bonanza:
- If a pair of cells in equivalent positions on both lines have the same shading (both shaded or both unshaded), then they are SAME DIFFERENCE cells, i.e. the difference between their digits is the same as the difference between all other pairs of digits in equivalent same difference cells.
- If a pair of cells in equivalent positions on both lines have different shading (one shaded and one unshaded), then they are DIFFERENT DIFFERENCE cells, i.e. the difference between their digits is different to the difference between all other pairs of digits in equivalent different difference cells.
Age Cage: digits in a cage must sum to the given total (but may repeat). No digits are to be placed between the two grids.
Upon completion, follow the instructions below the puzzle to find the SECRET CODE!

You really managed to mess with my brain with just 3 digits and 18 cells. Very little sudoku but lots of M-doku within a recognizable PP-puzzle. Well done!

Wow! Classic bit of PP setting, this... A very original idea, packed with global deductions and cool things to realise. Blimey, this wasn't easy though, I did struggle a lot with one of the main deductions of the solve, but I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless and appreciated all the cool logic throughout. A very cool idea, very well executed as ever. Thank you so much mate
