Standard Sudoku rules apply.
Shade some cells so that in the finished puzzle cells containing values exactly one greater than an immediate neighbour (diagonal or orthogonal) within their box are shaded (and otherwise unshaded).
The shading pattern must have 180° rotational symmetry.
Values in cells with arrows give the number of shaded cells in the indicated direction. All possible arrows are given.
Solution code: Row 1

This ruleset is addictive! Thanks for the fun, @ Abdul the Killer :).

Your best DIY shading yet that I've done. Some of the logic needed with the rotational symmetry and the negative constraint was super beautiful.
Now to check out this three legged dog one...
---Good luck there, it's pretty gnarly at points. I intend to publish a modified version of that puzzle this week. Thanks for the kind comment and solve. ---ATK

This was fun but very challenging. Took me well over 2 hours.
The interactions of the clues with the rotation symmetry are very fun.
I especially like how the 1s are doing so much work in this puzzle.
Well done, ATK. Take another bow.
---Thanks for saying. I really didn't intend it to be so difficult, I can't understand the 5-star difficulty rating. ---ATK

Oh wow - that was a tough one but very satisfying when I eventually got there. Thanks for creating it.
---You know I'm going to swear that the puzzle is not hard at all ;)
I've just "solved" it again to check my thinking -- it took me 30 minutes (which would suggest that it is difficult as it's my puzzle and I've already solved it more than once), BUT, I didn't allow myself to use any logic that required massive effort to understand.
As always, thanks for the comment and the solve.---ATK
I still go back to 3 legged dog occasionally and have another crack at it. One day I’m going to beat it for sure.

Nice one! Think this might be your toughest puzzle yet!
---Even tougher than Three-Legged Dog?! (which I know you've solved)
It wasn't meant to be. I initialised it as a 3-star puzzle. I obviously underestimated how the clues can rest unseen in plain sight.
Thanks for the solve and the kind comment.---ATK

The title's reference haunted me for a long time! Great puzzle.
