Ball Pit

(Published on 26. April 2024, 02:26 by RaygunUltra)

Normal sudoku rules apply; i.e. the digits 1 to 9 need to be placed, once each, in every row, column, and 3x3 box. Additionally the positions of the cells in the 3x3 boxes form disjoint groups that require their own set of the digits 1-9, i.e. the top left hand corner of each 3x3 box forms a set of the digits 1-9.

There are some circles in the grid which occupy the corners between some cells. Digits in these circles must all appear at least once in the cells touching them.

Digits in the gray circles must be odd.

Cells separated by a black dot must be in a 2:1 ratio, Cells separated by a white dot must be consecutive.

The sum of digits along a "double arrow" line is equal to the sum of digits in the circles at either end of the line.

The black circles in some cells are counting circles. If a digit appears in a black circle, it is counting how many times that digit appears in black circles. i.e. if R5C1 were a 2, 2 would need to appear once more in a black circle.

@dingledork
standard tactic for disjoint groups constraints for me is to color the grid using the same numpad-like profile as the colouring palette...
ie.place 4 has green, place 5 has purple, place 6 has orange, etc etc.

this allows you to double click a colour and instantly select that entire group for a quick look for leftovers/groupings...

thankfully so far I haven't bumped into a truely hard disjoing groups puzzle that needs me to keep track of other things with colours.

Mark on CTC has his red knight to remind him when he forgets the knight's move.

What should I use to remind myself not to forget the disjoint rule?

Lovely solve - until I forgot - and nice when I remembered :)
