Quadrilateral

(Published on 20. April 2024, 18:03 by jwsinclair)

Quadrilateral, by James Sinclair

Normal sudoku rules apply, and all clues are standard.
Thermometers: digits on thermometers increase from the bulb.
Renban lines: purple lines contain a non-repeating set of consecutive digits in any order.
Nabner lines: (thicker) gold lines contain a non-repeating set of digits, and no two digits on the same line can be consecutive (regardless of their position on the line).
Entropic lines: along (thinner) orange lines, every set of three adjacent cells must contain one low digit (1-3), one middle digit (4-6), and one high digit (7-9).
Digits in cells separated by an X sum to 10.
Digits in cells with a shaded square must be even.

This is a delightful puzzle. It is hard to accurately rate the difficulty because it is leveraging a technique that seems very unlikely to intuit but has been featured in variant sudoku long enough that "If you know you know." It is a puzzle where the difficulty comes from global design rather than tough individual steps. Very lovely and fun.

Brilliant puzzle!
I rated this 4* difficulty, because although it only spent me 17 minutes to solve, if you can't spot the trick, you'll be stuck forever!

This is the kind of puzzle I come to LMD for. Great logic throughout.

Very nice logic! Everybody should give this a try. I don't think the 4 stars for difficulty are justified.

Incredible puzzle! Amazing how it disambiguates from just a few breaks in the symmetry

It's very hard to point out my top 5 favorite puzzles from yours, but I think this one may be up there for sure.
A very elegant idea for the start followed with a greatly diverting solve path afterwards x)
