Young King Kuudos and the 13 monsters - Dungeons & Diagrams

(Eingestellt am 24. April 2024, 16:04 Uhr von SirWoezel)

Many years ago, before the sibling that eventually killed him was even born (of which you can learn more here and here), king Kuudos was in a bit of a pickle. As he entered his castle through the gates at R1C9 and walked towards his cosy throne in R5C4, he got the unpleasant feeling he was being watched. Several times. By... creatures. Creatures he did not invite! So obviously king Kuudos scraped his throat and politely asked them to leave his home.

This was met by laughter, and not the jovial kind but the kind ment to belittle. "Leave!? There's 13 of us and only one of you! Make us!", one voice shouted, and "Nah, I rather like it here! It's moist. And Dark.", stated another. A third creature then said "Here's what, Bigjob, we'll actually give you a chance. Take this diagram and figure out where we all are, and we will leave quietly. But fail and prepare to live with us forever". This is what they gave him. Can you help him solve the puzzle?

In this puzzle the following Dungeons and Diagrams-rules apply.

- Every spot in the castle is either a floor or a wall.
- All of the floor-space in the labyrinth is connected.
- Every dead end has a monster in it and every monster must be in a dead end.
- Nowhere is there any 2x2 floor area.

Additionally:

- Normal sudoku rules apply. Fill every box, row and column with the numbers 1 to 9 each once.
- A wall consists of wall-pieces that are orthogonally connected. Each wall must contain the digit that is equal to its number of wall-pieces (example: a 2-cell wall must have a 2 somewhere on it).
- The monsters have a digit that is equal to the sum of all the walls they are orthogonally touching (so a monster standing between a 2-cell wall and a 3-cell wall will have the digit 5). These are the only cells that have this property. So a floor-piece which is not a dead end that lies between a 2-cell wall and a 3-cell wall cannot contain a 5. This also applies for cells that only borders one single wall.
- All walls are killer cages, so digits do not repeat on them.

Clues outside the grid mean the following:

- Red clues = The number of wall-pieces in the row/column
- Orange clues = The number of monsters in the row/column
- Black clues = The sum of the digits on all wall pieces in the row or column or on the diagonal (X is the same total for both diagonals)

R1C9 is the entrance to the caste, so it's not a dead end.
R5C4 is where the king is sitting, so it's a floor.

As always, have fun

(and remember there are 13 monsters...)!
