Dungeons & Diagrams

(Eingestellt am 9. April 2024, 14:02 Uhr von SirWoezel)

I watched Simon play a game called Dungeons and Diagrams some days ago, which I rather liked. I wondered if it would be possible to combine this type of puzzle with sudoku, so I decided to give it a try. This is the result.

In this puzzle Dungeons and Diagrams-rules apply.

- Every spot in the terrifying labyrinth is either a floor or a wall.
- Rows and columns list the number of wall-pieces they contain.
- All of the floor-space in the labyrinth is connected.
- Every dead end has a thieving monster in it (grey cells) and every thieving monster must be in a dead end.
- Treasure chests (golden cells) are in a 3x3 room with only one exit.
This 3x3 room is a magic square.
- Nowhere outside the treasure room is there any 2x2 floor area.

Additionally:

- Normal sudoku rules apply. Fill every box, row and column with the numbers 1 to 9 each once.
- A wall consists of wall pieces that are orthogonally connected. Each wall must contain the digit that is equal to its number of wall-pieces (example: a 2-cell wall must have a 2 somewhere on it).
- The thieving monsters (grey cells) contain a number that is equal to the sum of all the walls they are orthogonally touching (so a thief standing between a 2-cell wall and a 3-cell wall will have the digit 5).
- All walls are killer cages, so digits do not repeat on them.
- If the thief in R4C7 makes a run for the treasure, and he takes the shortest possible route, it will take him 48 seconds to get it (the number in each floor-cell gives the number of seconds to cross that cell. Count the number of the thief and the treasure itself too!).

As always, have fun!

Is the thief allowed to move diagonally?

I solved assuming the thief must move orthogonally and ended up in a deadly pattern with 2 solutions, both of which I triple-checked obey the rules but neither of which satisfies the solution code.

EDIT: Aaaargh I should have quadruple-checked. I can't escape The Secret's hold on my mind. I solved assuming the thief's path added up to 45, not 48.

Great puzzle!

Some really cool logic going on there in the beginning. I really enjoyed that.

It took a bit of experimenting cell-by-cell for a while, so I may have missed some easier logic along the way, but I chiseled my way to the conclusion and enjoyed doing so.

once I understood I had to add the sizes of the walls, not the digits in the wall cells orthogonally adjacent to the monsters, it solved very pleasantly. thanks

Gonna give it a try! But the app doesn't contain the highlighted cells

Strange. They do for me. Which app is it that doesn't have the highlighted cells? Fpuzzles or CTC?

----------------
CTC, maybe is some of my settings? Numbers and instructions look right

No, when I open the link in another webbrowser the highlighting is gone for me too. I don't really understand why or how to fix it.

I'm out of ideas. I'm just going to remove the CTC-link as the fpuzzles link works just fine.

Mindboggling... I made the same diagram with a lighter shade of grey and now it does seem to work fine. Oh well, thanks for letting me know!

You are welcome! It works perfectly now.
