Dutch Flat Mates (Hit Points)

(Eingestellt am 3. April 2024, 11:30 Uhr von Flinty)

Normal Sudoku rules apply.
Place the digits 1-9 so that they do not repeat in any row, column, or 3x3 box.

5's live in Dutch Flats
All 5's in the grid must have a '1' directly above it or a '9' directly below it. It may have both, but it doesn't need both.

Hit Points
A clue outside the grid represents the sum of all the numbers where the distance from the clue equals the number..
Examples provided below.

Special Thanks
Thank you so much to Palpot for their guest spot last week, contributing an excellent puzzle to the series. I look forward to a return to Dutch Neighborhoods in the future *fingers crossed*.
Dutch Flat Mates (Hit Points) was constructed for Scojo's weekly prompt, which specified using this constraint in a puzzle, who in turn cites a puzzle on the CTC discord for inspiration, which you can play here:Hit Points - By Walker .

Hit Points Example
Clues on the outside count the sum of the digits in their correct position from that direction. In this example all side clues are given.

In Row 1, from the left (yellow), the digits '3' and '7' are the only digits in the correct column position, and have a sum of '10'.

In Row 4, from the right (cyan), the digits '2' and '9' are the only digits in the correct column position, and have a sume of '11'.

The constraint applies similarly to clues on the top and bottom of the grid, but for digits in the correct row position from that direction.

This Weeks Puzzle

Hint 1 - Something to ponder

The maximum possible sum of clues on each side is '45'.

Hint 2 - Where to look first

The 3 clues interact with the 5 clue, which in turn interacts with the 10 clue.

Hint 3 - Don't forget the rules

Don't forget about 1s, 5s and 9s; and what could almost be considered a negative constraint with oversumming.

Shouldn't the "6" clue corresponding to the 8 row be a "5"? or did I misinterpreted the rules?

Flinty: I suspect you have missed an option. The clues are correct for the unique solve.

Oh thanks, yes sorry I found out where I was wrong. Really cool puzzle! After getting the hang of the rules it went amazingly smooth and I had a lot of fun!

Flinty: Really glad you kept going, and thank you for the kind feedback. :)
