Secret Kingdoms

(Eingestellt am 27. März 2024, 17:36 Uhr von SenatorGronk)

This puzzle is a spiritual successor to Marty Sears' awesome Counting Castles. While the conceit is similar, the rules for the castles and bridges are different, so please read them carefully. (Special thanks to Marty for sharing the secrets of his castle/bridge creator)

UPDATE 19-SEP 2024: I've moved one of the given borders (again), which I think makes the region-building after the break-in much less painful.

Rules
  • Divide the grid into 9 kingdoms of orthogonally connected cells.
  • Fill the grid with the digits 1-9 so that each digit appears once in each row, column, and kingdom.
  • The strength of a kingdom is determined by summing the digits in its castle(s).
  • A digit in a blue square indicates its kingdom's strength. Each kingdom has a different strength.
  • Digits connected by bridges are in different kingdoms and for each their value is the strength of the kingdom on the other side of the bridge.
  • Two kingdom borders are provided.

Cute break-in, but the region-building afterwards was like pulling teeth.

----
Thanks for the feedback -- I played around and found a small tweak that greatly smooths out the region-building.

Beautiful puzzle! Took me a week before I realised an region-building error I made at the very beginning. 10/10

What a ride! I made a bad deduction about one of the regions that only broke the puzzle at the very end. Glad I came back. Awesome puzzle!

I love it! The break-in was not so hard, but it was really exciting! After this break-in, the tough part of the puzzle began. Managing to solve this puzzle made my day!

That's wonderful to hear, thank you!

That was the hell of a beast. The break-in is incredible, but doable. After that, you still have to work so hard. I surely missed some points. Such a great feeling to finish it.

Very well done, Senator

Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah there are a couple of spots after the break-in that are a little tough. I ended up moving one of the given borders to hopefully simplify things a bit.

Absolutely loved the break-in. Lots of tricky parts on this one and a joy to solve.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, that break-in was fun to setup.
