Fakes in the Fog

(Published on 10. March 2024, 03:25 by marty_sears)

This is part 3 of my Pseudo series:

Part 1: Pseudoscience

Part 2: Pseudo Differences

Part 3: Fakes in the Fog

Part 4: Pseudo Cluedo

Part 5: ???

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Enter correct digits to clear fog. No guessing is necessary.
  • In every row, column and box, there is exactly one 'pseudo cell'. The digits 1-9 each appear once in a pseudo cell.
  • The real value of a pseudo cell is calculated by adding its row number to its column number. Eg: if there is a pseudo cell in r8c5, it has the value of 13, regardless of which digit is in that cell.
  • On a lavender 'zipper' line, the values of any pair of cells that are an equal distance from the central spot always sum to the value on that central spot.
  • On a turquoise 'same difference' line, the values of adjacent cells always have the same difference (but this difference may be different for different turquoise lines.
  • Values joined by a V sum to 5.

Marty has done it again!
Beautiful, not too difficult but with very interesting logic

Wow, my first three star puzzle. After the first boxes I though, hmm, that seems too easy. Then it took me 3 hours to finish :-)
Thanks very much, loved it!!

Fun fog puzzle

Loved the way that one of the candidates for the zipper line center was ruled out in region 8. The variations on some of the same difference lines were wonderful. Thanks for a great puzzle.

I was planning on watching yesterday's CTC video before going to sleep and ended up stopping it to have a go after seeing the rules, thinking: this sounds like fun.
It also led to quite a reduced amount of sleep, but great fun it was indeed!

I am embarrassed to admit how many times this puzzle bamboozled me, yet I loved it every time!

Very fun puzzle. It got that Marty Sears signature that I very much enjoy with a number of those "I know where this is going, I know who set this" moments.

When I saw this posted I knew I was going to love it, and now that I've solved it I can say with certainty that I loved it. I agree with Franjo, there are really good jokes embedded in this puzzle. Top notch setting from start to finish. For me this felt more like a 4 star puzzle than a 3 because even though I was pretty sure I knew where Marty was going, proving it wasn't always a walk in the park.

That was my first time doing pseudo cells and it took me a while to get adapted to iy, but it was so fun and rewarding finding them.
