Chess Lines

(Eingestellt am 10. Februar 2024, 18:09 Uhr von gdc)

This puzzle is inspired by Knight Line and similar puzzles. I decided to extend the concept to use all the chess pieces. Thanks to Skunkworks for testing and especially to Chameleon for creating a PuzzleTV version of this puzzle.

  • Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  • Adjacent digits on a line must form a valid chess move by the indicated piece on a 3x3 numpad.
  • For example, a 1 on a knight line may only have the numbers 6 and 8 next to it so 6-1-8-1 would be valid.
  • Pawns can only move exactly one cell up or one cell down, so 2-5-8-5 would be a valid pawn line.

Examples

Here are illustrations of the possible neighbors on a bishop () and knight () line. A 5 on a bishop () line can connect to every other odd digit. 1 and 9 can also be next to each other on a bishop () line since bishops () can move multiple squares along a diagonal. A 2 on a bishop () line can connect to 4 or 6. 5 can never be on a knight () line and a knight () always has exactly 2 possible neighbors on a line. A longer run for a knight () line would be 1-8-3-4-9-2-7-6-1.

Lösungscode: Row 9 (9 digits)

Wow! I understand why the discussion is about hardness of the puzzle. It took me - quite a beginner, this is my second 3-star solve - days to figure out even the breakin. I was quite quite quickly on the right track. But didnt manage to advance. After nights of thinking, I finally got to a solution only to find out I made a mistake waaaay back on one of the chess rules and had to start over. Hahahah
But then it went very smoothly. In the end the CtC Counter said 1262 minutes :-o

I would say after the breakin its a 2star, maybe even easier if the type of puzzle is known to the solver.

Thanks for the nice sudoku, I loved it, especially because I managed to finally solve it!

Some surprising bits of logic in there I was not expecting to see. A few stubborn spots followed by a flurry of solving; if anyone hits a snag, stay persistent but maybe change your approach a little. Really fun! Glad to have managed to solve it.

Great puzzle. I disagree with those saying this is 3 - 4*. Felt like 1.5 - 2*. Nothing really tricky at all.

Absolutely brilliant puzzle! I would say 3-4 stars, too. Take a bow and thanks:)

At least for me it wasn't a beginner friendly 1-star puzzle, based on my completion time it woud more like a 3-4 star puzzle. Anyway, I enjoyed solving it, thanks for setting!
