In the throes of chaos (Calcudoku/Shimaguni/Kaero/Cipher)

(Eingestellt am 2. Februar 2024, 12:00 Uhr von dumediat)

This puzzle is one that I created as a gift to AstralSky for the 2023 Secret Satan event organized by Gliperal. This puzzle includes rules that are a play on Kaero (though not truly Kaero rules), where clues are moved around the grid to their final position.

Ratings, comments, and feedback are much appreciated! Please feel free to reach out to me on Discord if you have any comments or questions. Please also feel free to try my other puzzles here.

Rules:

  • Fill each cell with a digit from 1 to 9 such that digits do not repeat in any row or column. Cells with a circle must contain odd digits, and cells with a square must contain even digits.
  • Additionally, divide the grid into regions and shade some cells using the rules below. Some region borders and one unshaded cell (r5c4) are given, the rest must be determined by the solver. To avoid any misunderstanding, a region border within the grid (given or not) is always between two different regions.
  • Shimaguni: Shade some cells such that each region contains exactly one orthogonally connected group of shaded cells (islands). Shaded cells cannot be adjacent across region borders. Any two regions that share a border must have islands of different sizes. Each region must contain at least one instance of the digit that is equal to the number of shaded cells in that region (eg, a region with three shaded cells must contain at least one 3).
  • Calcudoku: Clues appearing in the top left corner of cells indicate the total that must be arrived at when applying one of four mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) successively to the digits contained in each region (starting with the largest number for subtraction and division). The mathematical operation to use in each region must be determined by the solver. These clues are ciphered, where each unique letter stands for a different digit from 1 to 9. Digits may repeat within regions if allowed by other rules.
  • Calcudoku clues may be moved orthogonally between cells, provided that movement lines do not cross or overlap one another (ie, a clue may not be moved to a cell that currently contains a clue, nor to a cell which a clue has already moved through). Clues may not move through given borders, but may move through borders that the solver has determined. For each cell a clue is moved, the clue decreases in value by 1; a clue's value may never drop below 1. In the final solution, each region must have exactly one clue; if a clue moves, the cell it ends in must be in a different region than all other cells on its path.
  • The original position of each calcudoku clue is shaded if the clue is moved, and unshaded if the clue is not moved.

After almost a week, I can now say that this is the hardest puzzle I've ever solved in my life. filuta must have solved a different puzzle that was not diabolic.

Really good puzzle though, you should check it out.

Crazy puzzle!
Pretty weird ruleset which needs to be read carefully, and takes a while to understand the implications of, but creates a lot of interesting and unique logic. All the different parts end up coming together nicely.

Very difficult solve, especially the earlier parts for me, but definitely worth it.

Great puzzle! The rules are quite weird (as is proper for such a satan puzzle) and lead to a very interesting solve with lots of fun logic unlike any I've seen before.

genuinely fun and not that diabolic expept for perhaps one (the coolest) step in the puzzle
