Tip: if you haven't encountered the 'six queens puzzle' before, solving that first may make this puzzle significantly easier.

Place the numbers 1-6 in the grid such that each occurs 6 times.

CAGES
Digits in a cage sum to the description in its corner. Digits may repeat in a cage.

FULL ANTI-CHESS
- Each value 1-6 represents a different chess piece, to be determined (the cells outside the grid may be used for note-taking).
- Two cells can't contain the same digit if one could move to the other according to standard chess rules.
- Example: if 1s are queens, two 1s can't occur in the same row column or diagonal; if they are knights, they can't occur a knight's move apart, and so on.

NOTES ON PAWNS
- Pawns can always move one space upwards.
- Pawns on the 2nd rank (from the bottom) can also move two spaces upwards.
- Pawns can move diagonally upwards (as when capturing in chess).
- Pawns never appear in the 1st rank.
- Any pawn on the 6th rank must be promoted: it retains its digit, but moves like a queen, rook, bishop, or knight (you choose which).

Tweaked a clue for a much smoother solve, added note-taking cells.

My solve got a bit messy at the end and had to trial and error a few positions. I might need to resolve to see the proper path, but definitely a fun puzzle!

Very fun puzzle, thank you! I love that you started with "Normal sudoku rules do NOT apply." :)

Very fun to solve! The way to determine which chess piece is represented by which value is brilliant!

Cool puzzle, very original. Not sure why you start the rules saying something doesn't apply, but that's a minor point. Finding the essential information about the the 6 queen puzzle was the key for me, as this makes the puzzle about 2-3 star difficulty. Not sure how to do that without that essential knowledge or how to prove that knowledge without extensive trial and error - would be happy to read about that, if you don't mind sharing it in a hidden comment perhaps. In any case, thanks for a great puzzle.
