Battlestar Galactica 1978
(Published on 17. January 2024, 14:06 by Jolly Rogers)
Dedicated to my fondness for Battlestar Galactica (1978). "Just because you don't know your direction doesn't mean you don't have one."
RULES:
- Normal Sudoku rules apply.
- Galaxies: Divide the grid into non-overlapping groups of orthogonally connected cells. Each group contains one red circle and is 180° rotationally symmetric around the circle. Every cell in the grid must belong to a Galaxy and all red circles are given.
- Star Battle: There are two types of stars in the grid: Dwarf stars and Giant stars. Every row, column and 3x3 box contains exactly one of each type of star. Stars cannot touch each other orthogonally or diagonally.
- Star Factor: The number inside the red circle is the star factor of its Galaxy. A star factor is equal to the number of cells the galaxy contains divided by the number of stars it contains. For clarity: A star factor of 0 means the galaxy contains no stars.
- Draw a one-cell-wide closed loop of orthogonally connected cells which fulfils the following requirements:
- All Dwarf stars must be on the loop.
- Giant stars cannot be on the loop.
- The loop cannot touch itself, not even diagonally.
- Digits on the loop which belong to the same galaxy must be of the same parity (odd/even).
- Each Giant star indicates how many cells in their 3x3 box are not on the loop (including itself). Also, their digit must be greater in value than the Dwarf star within its same 3x3 box.

Solution code: All the digits on the loop in ROW 1 (left to right with no spaces), followed by all the digits on the loop in ROW 9 (left to right with no spaces), followed by all the digits on the loop in COLUMN 1 (top to bottom with no spaces), followed by all the digits on the loop in COLUMN 9 (top to bottom with no spaces).

Beautiful puzzle, especially how every stage of the puzzle interlocks with each other.

I loved the show. I love the quote. It applies very well to the start of this beauty. It seems to be more than a 3* for me, because of the multiple steps. One for Simon maybe, as he loves battlestar.
