5 Golden Rings

(Published on 17. December 2023, 05:00 by Will Power)

Normal Sudoku rules apply. ANTI KING-The same number cannot be a chess king's move apart. CELL RANKING- A cell's rank is equal to the number of golden lines that go to the center of the cell (Example: Row 5 Column 5 has 6 lines that go to its center, and is rank 6). WITHIN EACH OF THE NINE 3x3 BOXES, cells with higher rank will always be a higher number than cells with a lower rank. Cells with no golden lines can be any number. KROPKI PAIRS- Numbers with a white dot between them are consecutive. Numbers with a black dot between them are in a ratio of 2:1. Not all possible dots are given. Numbers in cages sum to the number in the top left corner of the cage.

I also tried this one with fear, but realized how smooth it flows once you get the ruleset

Normally unique constraint rules are confusing and hard to remember while solving. This one was quite nice.

@JR_pianoman Thank you for commenting. Sometimes, people need a challenge to think outside the box. 8-) Peace to you. -Will Power

I think this would have been easier if I had remembered the anti king rule and not got stuck for 15 minutes staring at the screen and scratching my head :D

Like everyone else said, at first it looks daunting and didn't make sense to me. But I went ahead and tried it, and it is very smooth and logical. Great puzzle, thanks!

Little moment of concern when first reading the rules, but then you tell yourself, "It's a Will Power puzzle! It will be clear and will all flow together." It did. Thank you for providing this series.

Rules sounded more complicated at first than they really were, it was a very nice and fun puzzle, that went smoothly too.

Only thing I wasn't too sure at first about the ranks was how a straight line through a cell counts, but as I assumed, it counts as 2 lines going to the center.
So R7C7 has the same rank as R8C8 and R9C7.

@keenbowl Yes. A straight line and a bent line through the center are both rank 2. If a straight line through the center only counted as 1, then R5C5 would have only been rank 4, but I stated it is rank 6 in the rules. Thank you for playing and commenting. -Will Power

My Cincinnati Bengals just won an overtime thriller, but somehow, WillPower topped that with this tough golden variant sodoku.
