Japanese Japanese Sums Sums #1

(Eingestellt am 30. November 2023, 22:11 Uhr von The Book Wyrm)

This puzzle was inspired by zzw's brilliant puzzle vaddsetspi,

Rules:

  • Somewhere in the grid there is a 6x6 box, the position of which must be determined by the solver, and inside which standard chaos construction rules apply.
  • Chaos Construction: Place the digits 1-6 once each in every row, column and region. The regions (6 groups of 6 orthogonally connected cells) must be determined by the solver.
  • Inner Japanese Sums: some of the cells in the grid outside the box contain numbers which are Japanese Sums-style clues indicating the sums of contiguous runs of cells within the row or column of the inner box that are in the same region.
  • All clues for every row and column of the inner box must be filled in as numbers in the cells outside the box, in the correct order, in the corresponding row or column. Clues can be on either side (or both) of the inner box (the clues on either side of the box are read as one string, skipping over the inner box, top down or left to right). There are no gaps between clues or between a clue and the inner box. Every cell outside the box and not containing a clue must be empty.
  • Outer Japanese Sums: The clues outside the grid are Japanese Sums-style clues indicating the sums of contiguous runs of cells within that row or column that all have the same parity (odd or even).

Note: An empty cell seperates the sums of the outside clues, so if two cells of the same parity have an empty cell between them they are in different sums.

  • A '?' represents a digit from 1-9, and '??' represents a 2-digit number, and a '*' represents any number of unknown clues, including 0.
For clarification, an example of a completed grid is provided: (This has a 5x5 inner grid instead, and the numbers placed are shaded according to parity, for convenience)

Lösungscode: Row 4 followed by column 4 (of the overall grid), with empty cells replaced by X. (22 numbers/Xs, might be more than 22 digits)

What an awesome puzzle this is. I found it very difficult - was a multiple hour solve for me spread over a couple of days - but definitely worth the effort. Such power in so few clues - a great setting achievement Book Wyrm!

Wow, that's a beautiful puzzle! Not as hard as I expected, but very satisfying to find the breadcrumbs you sprinkled all over the grid. Thank you, Book Wyrm!

Beautiful !! I came to this puzzle a few days ago after solving the puzzle it is inspired from. This one is undoubtedly harder. So much information to gather to make it work. I found the first deductions in somes rows/columns rather quickly, but it took me a few days of reflexion to understand how to combine them and really get this going. After that, still a lot of hard deductions with very few clues to work with. It was very satisfying to see this build piece ny piece. A wonderful and memorable experience for me. Thanks++ :)

Simply amazing puzzle, loved it! Very cool extension of the rules in vaddsetspi that really makes the most out of every clue--quite surprising how few are needed.

So happy to have inspired this! I played around with some CC ideas after making vaddsetspi but I doubt any of them would've turned out this good.
