Earthquake

(Published on 7. November 2023, 13:15 by palpot)

This is the fifth and final puzzle of my natural phenomenon sudoku series. This puzzle has a crazy ruleset so I've added an example puzzle and its solution below in order to make the rules clearer. I hope you enjoy it.

Rules:

Normal sudoku rules apply.

In this puzzle, one of the lines is designated as a renban line, and the other is an entropy line. Along a renban line, digits form a sequence of consecutive digits in any order. On the entropy line, each set of three consecutive digits must include a low (1, 2, 3), a medium (4, 5, 6), and a high digit (7, 8, 9). Digits in cages must sum to the small number in the top-left corner of the cage. Sandwich clues outside the grid indicate the sum of the digits between 1 and 9 in that row/column.

HOWEVER, an earthquake struck the grid. The earthquake covered both the renban and entropy lines with dirt. The earthquake also shifted the cages sum exactly one column to the left or to the right. For instance, a cage sum originally in column 1 may have shifted to column 2 or 9. Furthermore, exactly one digit from each cage fell onto the renban line and the other digit fell onto the entropy line (i.e. the 18 digits in the cages are the same digits that are on the lines, and each cage contributes one digit to each line). Additionally, The sandwich sum has been shifted exactly one row up or one row down, or one column left or one column right, depending on the context (row 1 clue can shift to row 2 or 9). It is up to the solver to deduce the nature of each line and determine the direction in which the cage/sandwich sum has shifted.

Earthquake example: There is a slight change in the sandwich and entropy rules in the example puzzle since it's a 6X6. You can try the example puzzle here.

In the example image above arrows demonstrate the direction in which the cage/sandwich sum shifted. Cells colored in purple show the digits that "fell" from the cages onto the renban. Cells colored in yellow show the digits that "fell" onto the entropy line.

Solution code: Row 6 digits from left to right.

Unique breakin was quite interesting, then rest of the puzzle was fun, quite easy, and flowed nicely

Great puzzle, thanks. Took a while to get to used to all the unusual uncertainty but it was worth it.
