This is, I believe, the first pure killer sudoku I've posted here, which is odd because it's the ruleset I use most often. I've made pure killers that are much easier than this, but, until now, none that felt suitably challenging for LMD. Anyway, this puzzle was originally published in Artisanal Sudoku, Volume 91.

Wow, just wow. This is one of the best puzzles i've ever played. So elegant and smooth through out. Such fun logic. Every clue found gave a beautiful reward. Perfect setting !

I feel that there are many flows to do this but the one I saw was completely surprising when it came to identifying the first digit and why it was possible. Thanks a lot!
Edit: Sorry, I meant third digits. The two first digits are straightforward.

I tend to shy away from killer puzzles these days because people find monstrous patterns that require a lot of experimenting with "geography" and such ... this was just right for my brain!
