Vice versa [6×6 mirrored digits]

(Published on 3. September 2023, 11:33 by Christounet)

I initially set this 6x6 puzzle to demonstrate a new "mirrored digits" rule I am using in a big puzzle with linked grids that I will publish soon. I realized it was actually a very nice rule to play with on its own, so I also set a more challenging 9x9 puzzle with it (to be published later). One of the testers said I should publish this 6x6 as a standalone before, so here is this little snack ! Estimated difficulty 1.5

To my knowledge, this rule has never been used before, at least not after I searched LMD with various keywords. But it might have been used under a different name. Let me know in the comments if you are aware of any such puzzle !

The puzzle :

Play on Sudokupad

Rules :

- Normal 6x6 sudoku rules apply.

- Killer : The values of the cells in a cage must sum to the total in the top left corner.

- Mirrored digits : In every row, column and box, is a mirrored digit. It takes the value opposite to its own value on the 1-6 scale. (In other words, 1 takes the value of 6, 2 the value of 5... 6 the value of 1) Each digit 1-6 is mirrored once..

Enjoy ! And consider leaving a comment if you appreciate the puzzle !

You can check out my other puzzles here if you liked this one.

Solution code: Column 1 and 6

Interesting how it doesn’t look like it’s gonna be resolved at first but it did, in a very satisfying way. Very fun puzzle, let’s see how the bigger size goes x)

@Playmaker6174 : Well, if you just look at the newly published puzzles ;) Glad you enjoyed this little one !

A funny (and quite confusing) ruleset. Thank you for sharing.
---
@Franjo : Yeah, it is meant to be confusing, in a good way hopefully. I liked the twisty touch it adds to killer arithmetics. The 9x9 might confuse you a bit more ;)

That wasn’t easy, but it was fun! Look forward to seeing a full size one soon. Mirrored digits has potential to work well with a lot of different constraints I think.
---
@RockyRoer : I agree it has some good potential and makes for really enjoyable set/solves when you like some twisted arithmetics (I bet you do !). Works good with RSL too. And I bet we can expect to find it as a spicy sandwish ingredient any time ;)
The full size 9x9 is on its way, in testing right now :)
