Wait? It seems like Nala gets to choose between 2 different toys today that are hidden in the fog of not 1, but 2 sudoku! Can you help her find them? And which one will she end up picking to play with?
This puzzle is a collaboration with Sandra & Nala where we challenged Nala to pick her favorite of two toys that each of us hid in the fog of a different puzzle for her.
Can you help her find them? And which will she end up picking to play with?
Normal sudoku rules apply. There is a red cage from r3-r9 and c3-c9 in which the Japanese sums colorings will take place. The clues are given in c1-2 and r1-2. Clues are colored pink, and if there is a cage there, the sum is known to be the small digit in the corner * 10 + the value in the cage. So if a cage had a little 1 and a 4 was placed in it, the JSS clue would be 14. If there is no cage, you know there's a run of coloring, but not what it sums to.
Japanese sums rules apply.
The clues inside the grid (r1-2 and c1-2) indicate the sums of the contiguous runs found in that row or column that must be shaded. There must be an unshaded cell between runs of the same color. If a row or column is unclued (no pink cells at all), there is no shading in that row or column.
Cells attached with a V sum to 5. Not all V's are given.
In addition the following ambiguity rules apply.
There are 4 colored dots in the grid: Green, Red, Blue and Yellow. They are ratio dots and may represent any ratio from 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:6, 1:7, 1:8, or 1:9. It's up to the solver to determine which dot is which type.
There are several pink lines in the picture. Those are either Renban OR they are German Whisper. Each line must be determined individually.
Circle = Odd.
And there is FOG
Solution code: Row 8 column 3

No spoiler: The rules are not fully descriptive. They should say "If the cage does not have a small digit in the corner, the sum is known to be value in the cage". Otherwise, I loved the puzzle!

That was great fun! I am always seeking variety in puzzles and I appreciate that you put all these rules together to create something original. I hadn't seen the ratio dots rule before.

Very nice. Had to backtrack a couple of times as I had overlooked a rule but once I applied all the rules it was a straight forward solve. Thanks!

I was looking forward to helping Nala again, but never seen a Japanese Sums puzzle before. Looks like I will have to practice before I can help.
