Surgical Excision

(Published on 1. July 2023, 05:02 by HalfBakedLunatic)

The last of my "Surgical" trio ... working on some different (more approachable) puzzles for next week :-)

• Normal Sudoku Rules Apply
• Digits along each purple renban line must be a set of consecutive digits in any order, and must not repeat
• The digits in a cage must sum to the number in its corner
• Cells with a filled square must be even number digits
• Digits along diagonals must not repeat

Solve Online here:
Surgical Excision (SudokuLab)
Surgical Excision (F-Puzzles)
Surgical Excision (Cracking The Cryptic)

NOTE: I sincerely apologize to whomever tried to use the F-Puzzles link in last week's puzzle, Surgical Incision. I had made an error and one of the German Whisper lines was placed incorrectly, leading to an unsolvable puzzle :-(

The only reason I know about the Phistomefel is from watching way too many Cracking The Cryptic videos. I spent over 3 hours on this puzzle the other night, and probably another three hours just now. Gack, what a mind bender.

I've rated a few puzzles "very hard" lately, but they were a walk in the park compared to this. What an amazing construction this is. I haven't tried the other two in this series, they look utterly impossible.

One of the best executions of The Special Theory of The Phistomefel's Ring as relating to the diagonal constraint. Highly rewarding puzzle.
I might have missed the memo that this is the summer of the P-ring. The recent puzzle "Jeweled band" by 99%Sneaky dealt with the general theory of the P-ring not involving the diagonal nor chess knight constraints.

-- Thank you @Fisherman, great feedback! I did three puzzles all on the same theme (with palindromes, German Whispers, and now this one with Renbans). I kept having to move elements around for this one and I wasn't totally happy with the 'look' of it, not as symmetrical as the other two, but I guess this one has the best solution path.
