The digit in the caged cell counts the number of friendly cells in the entire puzzle. A cell is friendly if it contains a digit matching its row number, column number, or box number. Rows are numbered 1-6 top to bottom; columns are numbered 1-6 left to right; boxes are numbered 1-6 top to bottom, and left to right within each row; i.e., the top-left box is #1, the top-right box is #2, the middle-left box is #3, etc.
