Digital Sandwich
Rules:
Normal sudoku rules apply. Clues outside the grid show the sum between the numbers 1 and 9 in that row or column, respectively. Furthermore, the number outside the grid also tells that somewhere in that row/column going in that derection the digits of that number will be next to each other in that order (i.e. if it is on left side means from left to right, if it is on top side means from top to bottom, if it is on bottom side means from bottom to top). E.g. if the clue is 23 it means the sum of the numbers between 1 and 9 is 23 but also means in that direction (depending on which side is the clue) the digits 2 and 3 are next to each other in that order (for convenience 231456897 and 123567948 both would work for the clue). '?'s are digits 1 to 9 which must be determined by the solver.
Solution code: Row 2 followed by row 3.

Certainly had some fun here! Tough middle step, but very rewarding.

Changed to previous version since it seems the new version is way harder for the break in with many cases.
